City Council

Joseph Kitchens


Mr. Kitchens was born in Roanoke, Alabama. He graduated from Troy State University with a degree in finance and business administration and moved to Robertsdale in 1973. Married to the former Brenda Fell from Robertsdale, they have five children, three living in Robertsdale now.

He has served on the City Council since 1988, now in his 9th term.  He has served on the Park and Tree Committee and on the Planning Commission during his time in office.

Joe is the owner of the family business, Furniture City in Robertsdale, where he has worked since 1973. He and his family attend Robertsdale United Methodist Church.  He is a member of the Robertsdale Rotary Club–where he has been awarded two Paul Harris Fellowship awards. A past president of the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, Joe prides himself in dealing with local merchants and keeping business at home.

He enjoys his time on the Council and works hard to do what is best for all the citizens of Robertsdale and keep our city moving forward and making progress. “Robertsdale is a city that just keeps growing and becoming a city we can all be proud of and we want all our citizens to have the best environment to raise our families. It is an honor to have most of my family here and to work with a dedicated and experienced Council.”

Sue Cooper

Mrs. Cooper was born in Union Springs, Alabama. She has been a resident of Robertsdale since 1959. Since 2000 she has served on the Robertsdale City Council. Besides serving in the community on many boards and committees, she was an educator for 34 years.  Her family resides in the Robertsdale area.  “Robertsdale is a great place to live.”

Ruthie Campbell

Ms. Ruthie Campbell is the newest member to the City Council.  Ruthie is a lifelong resident of Central Baldwin County.  In addition to being a graduate of Robertsdale High School, Ruthie runs her own business in Robertsdale.  Her family background was part of the original agricultural families who settled in Robertsdale in the early 20th century and her roots are still a part of this industry today in our area.  Having been raised on the family farm, Ruthie  refers to herself as the “Farmer’s Daughter” and remains active in farming and ranching activities. She is an active member of the Rotary Club and the Central Baldwin Chamber of Commerce. She has previously served on the Robertsdale Planning Commission. This is Ms. Campbell’s second term on the City Council.

One of her goals during her term on the City Council is to work on the Central Baldwin Beautification Project, and she has a keen interest in preserving the historical heritage of our area.

Paul Hollingsworth

Mr. Hollingsworth was born in Atmore, Alabama. He has been a resident of Robertsdale for since 1970. He is a retired school administrator for Robertsdale High School and has served on the City Council since 2000. He enjoys working with all of the wonderful people of Robertsdale. “GO BEARS”

Russell Johnson

Council member Russell Johnson has been serving residents of the Robertsdale through local family owned businesses for many years.

Russell holds a degree in Human Resources from Troy University.  He began his professional career by joining his family in opening up GooRoo's Grill in 2009.  In 2018, he and his wife opened Sweet Home Coffee.

Russell's faith and family are the foundation of his life. He is married to his beautiful bride Stephanie, and they have two daughters.

His family plays a large role at Robertsdale First Baptist Church.  You can find him strumming his guitar during praise and worship most Sunday mornings.
